Roxana Jullapat

Pastry Chef/Baker, Friends & Family | Los Angeles, CA

Roxana Jullapat is pastry chef and baker at Friends & Family. Chef Roxana is a Los Angeles native of Costa Rican and Thai descent who pursued a degree in journalism before turning to cooking. For the last twenty years, she has held tenures at some of Los Angeles’ most celebrated restaurants - from the legendary Campanile to Bastide, Lucques, AOC, and Clarklewis. In May of 2017, she opened Friends & Family bakery, where every loaf of bread, morning pastry, and decadent cookie reflect her appreciation for ancient grains and California’s seasonality. She’s an advocate for garden-based education, and volunteers often at school gardens around town. Her first cookbook, Mother Grains: Recipes for the Grain Revolution (W.W. Norton), was released in April of 2021. She bakes most days of the week at her bakery and, in her days off, can be found working on a second cookbook – a deeper dive into whole-grain baking. Her recipes can be found in Epicurious, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, The Washington Post, and Fine Cooking. As a frequent traveler, Roxana is always planning a trip to a new destination where she will likely skip the museum and head to the local market, always intent on discovering new ingredients and recipes. @roxanajullapat
